What you can Do?

$15 per month will cover the cost of nutritious meals for a student at Ariang School, relieving students of hunger which hampers their learning. The provision of school meals will encourage the parents to allow their children, especially girls, to attend school.

$30 per year will cover medicines for de-worming a child suffering from parasites (ie. luke worms, tapeworms). This will help children stay healthy, enhancing their ability to learn.

$45 per year will buy uniforms for one student, especially girls, which will encourage them to attend school. Some young girls do not attend school simply because their families cannot afford clothes or uniforms.

$3,500-4000 will cover the cost of drilling a well to provide safe drinking water for students and their families. The close proximity of water to Ariang School will also shorten the traveling time that young girls have to make to fetch water. As a result, this water provision will increase enrollment rates for young women.

Ariang School Building Costs

$15 will buy a wheelbarrow which will be used to transport and mix cement material for the building.

$20 will buy one bag of cement which will be used to make blocks for the building and the laying of foundation.

$35 will buy a roll of window screening and wooden shutters to cover the windows in order to prevent dust and water from accumulating inside the school.

$100 will buy a roll of iron sheeting to use as roofing material.

$200 per month will cover the incentives for an engineer to build the kilns, enabling the bricks to be burned in large quantities.

$500 per semester will cover the tuition for a prospective teacher candidate in teacher training. This will allow one teacher from Ariang School, currently with an 8th grade level of education, to complete secondary school in Uganda and attend teacher training courses so s/he can return to the village as an educated, well-trained teacher and provide effective instructions for students.

Scholarships for Teacher Education

Students can not receive a proper education without trained teachers. Currently, most teachers in Ariang School have not completed primary and secondary education. None of the teachers have received formal teacher training.

Part of our mission is not only to build the school, but also to provide effective trainings and scholarships for current and prospective teachers. This will address long term, effective instruction for the Ariang School.

$150 per school year will buy the instructional materials that one teacher needs for his or her classroom (i.e. pens, pencils, markers, notepads, and teacher planning books).
